Alan Kirk

Alan Kirk (Eddie) has been a professional musician since the age of 17.  He spent two happy years with Country Pie, a successful and popular Country & Western band, playing guitar and singing, working up to 13 gigs a week in the San Luis Obispo area.

Alan worked in Hollywood recording studios and performance venues for a number of years, developing his skills as a sound engineer and audio producer, in the process recording the music for Solley’s Diner, which was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Short Feature category in 1980.  Also while in Hollywood, to improve his stage presence as a musician, Alan studied acting with Lee Strasberg protégé, John Sarno.   Alan’s most recent professional sound reinforcement gig was with the Marty Paich Big Band, led by legendary composer-arranger Marty Paich of Santa Ynez. 

Alan moved to Santa Barbara in 1999 to attend UCSB, where he received an M.A. in rthnomusicology after completing hands-on field research in Morocco, relating to Moroccan drumming and rhythmically initiated trance states.  In the past eight years, Alan has performed as an instrumentalist and/or vocalist with a number of local groups.  In addition to electric bass and electric and acoustic guitar, Alan has also worked as a performer with the Arabic Riqq, various frame drums from different cultures, keyboards, symphonic percussion, pedal steel, lap steel, dobro, harmonica, washboard, spoons, and melodica.
