John Douglas
John Douglas (Herbie, music director), in recent years, has served as music director/pianist for dozens of Broadway musicals and revues at high schools, junior high schools, and youth theater programs in the Santa Barbara area.
So far this year he has served as music director/pianist for Music of the Night at SBHS, Curtains at DPHS, Honk! at GVJHS, Singin’ in the Rain at SBHS, Masks at City at Peace, and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at Stage Left.
Precious Nonsense marks his third year of work for Circle Bar B: he recorded the music tracks for I Remember You in 2008, served last year as music director /pianist for Tony & the Soprano, and wrote two songs for Musical Comedy Murders of 1940. John’s original music and songs have been heard in plays with music at Santa Barbara High School the past two years (Village Fable 2008 and Pinocchio 2009) and at teen theater program, City at Peace, at Center Stage Theater for the past four years. He directs the jazz bands at Westmont College and Goleta Valley Junior High School, and teaches piano at Westmont. John is on staff as an accompanist at SBCC, and is on faculty at SBCC Adult Ed.
He records and performs with singers and bands in diverse genres here and in Los Angeles. Performing credits include tours with the Pointer Sisters, Donald O’Connor, and Eddie Fisher, and shows with Aretha Franklin and Dizzy Gillespie, among others. John and Stephanie “Josephine” Sivers have recorded two albums together—one soon to be released.
