Miller James

Miller James

Miller James (director, costume designer) has directed, written, and acted in Santa Barbara for nearly 15 years, and his name has become synonymous with theater for children in the Santa Barbara community where he serves as an artist-in residence, directs plays and drama programs, consults on drama curriculum in the schools, and runs music and theater camps.

His directing credits include The Diviners, All in the Timing, and Cinderella among others in the greater Seattle area, as well as over 25 shows in Santa Barbara, including codirecting Peter Pan for the Santa Barbara Theatre. He has directed the family opera Amahl  and the Night Visitors for the Santa Barbara Children’s Chorus, Hansel and Gretel, The Magic Flute, and Pirates of Penzance for Opera Santa Barbara, and has directed Ensemble Theater’s Storybook Theatre for 13 years.

An award-winning costume designer, Miller is an adjunct instructor in costume design for Westmont College and designs locally. Not coincidentally, Miller lives locally with his wife of 22 years, their 10 year-old daughter, 7 year-old twin boys, two rabbits, two hamsters, and a tarantula.
