The Circle Bar B Dinner Theatre 2010 Season Entertainment un-matched! Sherlock’s Last Case; written by Charles Marowitz; directed by Jim Cook Starring; Sean O’Shea (It Had To Be You) as Sherlock Holmes and David Couch as Dr. Watson April 2nd-May 16th Not so elementary my dear Watson…..Someone is trying to kill Sherlock Holmes and he must now solve the case of his life. Travel back to foggy Victorian London to witness hair-raising twists and turns as Holmes and Watson take the stage for a mystery that’s part spoof, part loving tribute and all fun; leading to a stunning twist that will catch you by complete breath stopping surprise. Not advisable for small children. The Girl in the Freudian Slip; by William F. Brown; directed by Joseph Beck May 29th-July 11th A staid New York psychiatrist finds himself in a heap of hot water after he has written a play about a very sexually charged young woman. The trouble is that no one was supposed to see the play especially because the woman in the play may or may not be his former patient and the lead character (a psychiatrist) may or may not be him. Throw in a fashionable wife yearning for a spark in her marriage and a “best friend” who might be taking a little too much interest in the wife’s “yearning”. Oh, and did we mention that the former patient just happens to be a publisher? Compromising positions and misunderstandings abound in this very funny farce. Precious Nonsense; Book and new lyrics by Rachel Lampert; original lyrics by William Gilbert with music by Sir Arthur Sullivan Directed by Miller James with music direction by John Douglas. July 23rd-Sept 5th Rachel Lampert, the author of last year’s huge success; Tony and the Soprano, again gives us a high energy musical that is part Noises Off, part The Taming of the Shrew and all fun. It’s about family, romance and the power of positive thinking. The time is the Depression and a traveling troupe of four are about to perform Precious Nonsense of Gilbert and Sullivan in a barn in upstate New York. The owner of the “theater” has decided that he wants the operetta Pirates of Penzance instead. In the spirit of “the show must go on”, it does with the four original troupe members and a couple of others they have picked up along the way. Cross dressing, mistaken identities, love complications and crazy on stage/ off stage moments lead to fun for the entire family. The Cocktail Hour written by A. R. Gurney Directed by Jim Sirianni Sept. 18th- Oct.31st The time is the mid-70’s, the ritual is the cocktail hour and the prodigal son has returned home to get his family’s approval about a play that he has written about them. Since it does not necessarily paint his proper family (and specifically his father) in a favorable light, they are cautious. As the martinis flow and the night drags on so do the recriminations and revelations both funny and poignant. Gurney, who penned Sylvia, has once again proven that the strength of love and family conquers all and we mustn’t take ourselves too seriously.
